Regional elections in Tuscany, Giani: "Voting on October 12 or 19"

Florence, 26 June 2025 – The regional elections in Tuscany will be held in October, in four months, therefore, citizens will return to the polls. This was announced today, June 26, by the President of the Region, Eugenio Giani , at the end of the Conference of the Regions, where the possibility of postponing the vote to spring 2026 was discussed.

"Some Regions interested in the renewal of their respective Councils had asked for a postponement of the vote, not so much - the Tuscan governor clarified - for issues related to the controversy over the third mandate , but for technical and administrative reasons: in particular, the fear that a vote in the autumn would make it difficult to approve the budgets by December, forcing the outgoing councils to a provisional exercise".

A motivation that Giani did not consider sufficient to justify the postponement : "I supported a position of respect for the rule of law that looks to the Constitution and the laws. Our Charter establishes that a mandate lasts five years , no more. And we voted on 20 and 21 September 2020: it is therefore right that we vote within the same time frame". President Giani thus confirmed that he will soon sign the decree to call the regional elections in Tuscany, which will take place " on 12 or 19 October ", reiterating his "certainty and determination" in wanting to respect the constitutional timeframes.

Giani is therefore looking ahead to the vote: "To the Tuscans I say, let's get ready. We will vote on October 12 or 19, according to what the Constitution tells us. This means presenting the lists 30 days in advance, in September, calling the electoral rallies for the second half of August. So here we are. It is right that the opinion returns to the sovereign people".

Eugenio Giani is still waiting for the official confirmation of his re-candidacy, the same goes for the centre-right candidate: Alessandro Tomasi , mayor of Pistoia and regional coordinator of FdI.
